Beginning Sept. 1, Maryland taxpayers will have a new way to manage their state tax accounts. The Maryland Tax Connect portal, currently used by businesses, will expand to include individual taxpayers, allowing them to file income tax returns, make estimated tax payments, establish payment plans, and access their tax information online.

The enhanced portal also provides real-time account balances, a complete filing history, and additional tools to manage accounts and communicate with the Office of the Comptroller of Maryland.

Important Transition Dates

To prepare for the move to the new cloud-based system, some services will be temporarily unavailable beginning in late July. If you have a return to file or payment due in August, keep these key dates in mind:

  • July 24 – Last day to make in-person paper check payments at branch offices for personal income, pass-through entity, and fiduciary taxes. Branch offices close at 4:30 p.m. Electronic payments and money orders will continue to be accepted. The Comptroller’s Office will resume accepting paper checks for these tax types on Sept. 1.
  • July 29 – Last day (by midnight) for individuals to electronically file returns or make payments through the current website. Online filing and payments for individuals will resume through Maryland Tax Connect on Sept. 1.
  • Aug. 20 – Last day (by midnight) for businesses to electronically file returns and make payments through the current Maryland Tax Connect portal. Normal operations resume Sept. 1.
  • Aug. 21–31 – The Comptroller’s Office will complete the final system migration. During this period, e-check and credit card payments will still be accepted and debited from bank accounts but will not post to taxpayer accounts until after Sept. 1. Taxpayers with due dates during this period will not be assessed penalties for payments that could not be made because of the transition. For additional payment information during the transition, visit MarylandComptroller.gov/Payments.
  • Sept. 1 – Maryland Tax Connect will be available for individual taxpayers, and all services will resume.

For additional details, including a complete transition timeline and answers to frequently asked questions, visit the Maryland Comptroller’s Individual Tax Hub.
