Jeffrey May is a Co-Founder and Senior Advisor at Councilor Wealth. He brings more than 30 years of experience in public accounting. While Jeff enjoys a diverse mix of clients across industries, he is known for his expertise in the professional services, real estate, oil and gas, retail, government contracting, and internet commerce industries.
Before joining Councilor, Jeff co-founded May & Barnhard, P.C., a Bethesda, Maryland-based tax and financial consulting firm that merged with Councilor in November 2017. In addition to overseeing quality control within the practice, he specialized in providing tax services and benefit planning to individuals, closely held businesses, and not-for-profit organizations. Within the not-for-profit sector, Jeff has particular expertise in helping organizations obtain tax-exempt status, navigate unrelated business income tax complexities, and meet public support tests.
A former president of the Maryland Association of CPAs’ Washington Capital Area chapter, Jeff remains active as a thought leader on tax issues. He has written numerous articles on tax-related topics and has appeared on news and radio programs to discuss tax policy and compliance.
