Julia Lafferty is a Partner and Director of Not-for-Profit and Employee Benefit Plan Services at Councilor, where she partners with management teams and board members to support their organizations throughout the audit process. She specializes in using financial statements and Form 990 information to help organizations share their stories clearly and compellingly.
With more than 30 years of accounting experience, Julia’s areas of concentration include not-for-profits, agreed-upon procedures, and employee benefit plan audits. She began her career with a Big Four accounting firm, where she spent 15 years auditing organizations across a variety of industries. She then transitioned to a regional firm, where she focused on not-for-profit organizations for 10 years before joining Councilor.
Julia is a true partner to the organizations she supports. She routinely works with clients to review and improve liquidity, and when providing Uniform Guidance direction, she supports the development and strengthening of internal control systems. She also frequently attends board meetings to discuss operations and financial conditions, including risks and opportunities.
In an increasingly virtual environment, Julia is passionate about helping organizations transition to cloud-based accounting systems. This approach streamlines collaboration while empowering organizations to enhance their own operational efficiency.
